Confidentiality & Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026

This document outlines the confidentiality and privacy policies applicable to therapy services provided by EmoBroth, both online and offline. If you have any questions or concerns about confidentiality, your therapist will be happy to discuss them with you.

1. Client-Therapist Relationship

The therapeutic relationship is strictly professional and exists solely for therapeutic purposes. The relationship is most effective when it remains clearly defined and focused exclusively on therapeutic work.

To maintain the integrity of the therapeutic relationship, therapists do not engage in personal, social, or business relationships with clients. Therapists also do not accept gifts or engage in exchanges of services with clients.

2. Confidentiality of Information

Your privacy is very important to us. As a client, you have the right to expect that what you share during therapy will remain private.

All information shared during your sessions is kept confidential. In most situations, information regarding your sessions will not be shared without your written permission.

However, there are certain situations where confidentiality may need to be limited.

a. Professional Consultations

At times, your therapist may consult with other mental health professionals to provide the best possible care. When this happens, identifying details are not shared wherever possible, and those professionals are also expected to maintain confidentiality.

b. Practice Team and Administrative Staff

EmoBroth may work with administrative support for purposes such as scheduling, billing, payment processing, or other administrative requirements. It may be necessary to share limited information for these purposes.

All individuals who have access to confidential information in the course of providing these services are required to uphold appropriate privacy and confidentiality.

c. Safety Concerns

If we believe that you are at risk of seriously harming yourself, we may need to take steps to ensure your safety. This could include contacting trusted individuals or appropriate emergency or support services.

We will involve you in these situations wherever possible, and your consent will be sought before any decision is made unless immediate action is necessary to protect your safety.

3. Limits to Confidentiality

There are some rare situations where the law may require or allow us to share information without your consent.

a. Legal Proceedings

If you are involved in a court case and we receive a legal order, we may be required to share relevant information.

b. Government Requests

If a government or authorised regulatory agency legally requires information, we may need to comply with that request.

c. Complaints or Legal Action

If a client files a complaint or takes legal action against the therapist or EmoBroth, relevant information may be shared as part of our response or as required for the matter.

4. Protection of Others

We are required to take protective steps if we believe someone is in danger.

a. Child Abuse

If we suspect that a child is being seriously abused or is at significant risk of abuse, we will report the matter to the appropriate child protection authorities where required by law.

b. Abuse of a Vulnerable Adult or Elder

If we believe that a vulnerable adult or elderly person is being abused or neglected, appropriate protective or legal steps will be taken where required.

c. Serious Threat to Others

If we believe that a client poses a serious threat of harm to another person, we may need to take protective steps, which can include notifying the appropriate authorities or the person at risk.

5. Transparency and Minimal Disclosure

If any of these situations arise, we will first and foremost talk to you whenever it is appropriate and possible.

Only the information that is necessary for the specific situation will be shared.

The purpose of any disclosure will be limited to addressing the relevant safety, legal, or professional requirement.

6. Payment for Therapy Services

Payment for both online and offline therapy sessions is due 24 hours before the time of service.

Accepted methods include credit/debit cards, net banking, bank transfers, e-wallets, and UPI.

All transactions are processed through secure, encrypted payment gateways to ensure the safety and confidentiality of your financial information.

7. Professional Records

Each therapist at EmoBroth maintains confidential professional records of your sessions.

These records include relevant details from our work together and are kept securely in accordance with ethical and legal standards.

We take the privacy and security of your information very seriously. All records are stored using secure systems and are password protected. This ensures that confidential information accessed in the course of service delivery remains protected.

8. Rights with Respect to Online Therapy

Online therapy refers to the delivery of psychological services using electronic communication methods such as secure video and audio platforms. This allows therapists at EmoBroth to provide care remotely while maintaining professional and ethical standards.

While we strive to ensure privacy and security in all online interactions, clients are encouraged to participate in sessions from a private, quiet space and to use secure internet connections whenever possible.

As a client engaging in online therapy, you are entitled to the same rights and confidentiality protections as in-person therapy, subject to the legal and safety-related exceptions described in this policy.

Your personal information or identifiable images will not be shared without your written consent, except in circumstances where disclosure is required or permitted as described above.

a. Participation and Consent

You have the right to decline or discontinue online therapy at any time without affecting your access to future care.

If it is determined that in-person services may better suit your needs, you will be referred to a qualified provider in your area where appropriate.

b. Withdrawal of Consent

You have the right to withdraw your consent to therapy or to the processing and sharing of your personal information at any time, subject to applicable legal, professional, and record-keeping requirements.

To withdraw consent, you can communicate your request directly to your therapist or contact EmoBroth through the contact details provided on this website. Your request will be acknowledged and addressed appropriately.

Withdrawal of consent will not affect the lawfulness of any processing or disclosure that took place before the withdrawal. Certain information may also need to be retained where required for professional, legal, regulatory, or administrative purposes.

If you withdraw consent for online therapy, therapy through EmoBroth will be discontinued and, where appropriate, you may be guided towards alternative support.

c. Risks and Security

EmoBroth uses secure platforms for online sessions. However, there are inherent risks with any online communication.

These include potential technical disruptions, unauthorised access, or loss of data despite reasonable safeguards.

d. Benefits and Limitations

Online therapy may offer improved access and convenience, but results cannot be guaranteed.

Like all therapy, it may have varying outcomes, including the possibility of no improvement or temporary worsening of symptoms.

e. Scheduling, Billing, and Records

Your information may be shared with administrative support for scheduling, billing, and record-related purposes. Individuals who have access to such information are required to maintain confidentiality.

Your explicit consent is required before sharing your information with any third party, except in the circumstances where disclosure is required or permitted as described in this policy.

9. Crisis Situations

By engaging in therapy, you acknowledge that therapy delivered via audio, video, or offline may not be suitable for all situations, especially emergencies or crises.

If you are experiencing a crisis or are in immediate danger, please contact emergency services by calling 112 in India, or go to the nearest hospital or crisis-oriented facility in your area for immediate support.

While we are here to support your mental health, we may not be able to respond in real time during urgent situations.

If you require immediate support, please contact the appropriate emergency or crisis service directly.

10. Termination of Services

Ending therapy is a collaborative process.

If you are considering discontinuation of therapy services, we encourage open and honest communication so we can support a thoughtful transition, explore any concerns, and ensure continuity of care if needed.

Therapy may also be concluded when therapeutic goals have been addressed or when another form of professional support is considered more appropriate.

11. Questions About Confidentiality and Privacy

Please feel free to contact EmoBroth or discuss your concerns with your therapist if you have any questions about how your confidentiality or personal information is protected.

We are committed to maintaining a professional, confidential, and respectful therapeutic environment and to taking appropriate measures to protect the information entrusted to us.

12. Updates to This Policy

This Confidentiality & Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in our services, professional practices, technology, or applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

The most current version of this policy will be available on the EmoBroth website.
